Ten days ago, I flew home to Alaska from Nairobi, Kenya. I returned from a week-long trip of visiting and serving with my friend, co-worker, and former student, Nash. We met seven years ago during my first trip to Kenya where I taught on Wayland Baptist University's Kenyan Campus. Nash was a star student.

It was a great joy to return seven years later to teach alongside a former student. Nash's commitment to serving God and equipping pastors and other ministry leaders will inspire anyone who shares his passion for fulfilling God's plan for life.

The central driving Bible verse for Nash's ministry, EPIK (Equipping Pastors In Kenya), is from Paul's words to the young pastor Timothy.

2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV)
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
We are all products of those who have poured into us - parents, teachers, pastors, mentors, scholars, iron-sharpened friends. However, not all continue to pour. Paul tells Timothy to keep pouring. The best students are those who find ways to share their learning with others - either formally (teaching) or informally (chats over Chai Tea).

Nash gathers pastors and other ministry leaders in various locations across the beautiful country of Kenya and provides training for them that equips them with theological knowledge and practical methods of ministry. I was delighted to journey to Kenya to provide such teaching. All the pastoral teachers and leaders who attended were very welcoming and receptive. They devoted three days to honing their craft and deepening their understanding. I especially appreciated their willingness to ask honest questions. That's what great learners do.

It has been said that every Christian needs a . . .
  • Paul (teacher)
  • Timothy (student)
  • Barnabas (encourager)
  • Nathan (challenger)
All four are important. Three of the four are about receiving; one is about giving. In your life remember to include the giving, the pouring.

I ask you to pray for Nash and his family as they serve the people of Kenya. Pray for them and continue to pour.
