Saving Not Worrying

Our financial advisor told my wife and me that over forty percent of people save nothing for retirement.  That's right - you read that correctly - 40%!  Motivated by that new bit of knowledge, I will dedicate this post to the importance of saving for the future.

Jesus told the crowd who were listening to refrain from worrying about the future.  Worrying is the word He used - please note.  All throughout Scripture we find urgings and prompts to plan, prepare, estimate, and the like.
Worry?  No.
Save?  Yes!

If you are not already saving for your future days, begin today.  We fans of Ordinary Life know that surprises happen enough that they are part of the Ordinary - washers stop washing, dryers stop drying, bodies get hurt, cars get damaged . . .  We need to be ready for surprises.

In addition to the replacement of washers and the like in the relatively near future, Lord-willing - a more distant future awaits you.  Do you really want to work full-time until the grave?  Would you like to leave a little something (or a lot) for your kids?  Won't it be nice to be even more generous once your mortgage is paid in full?

If you are among the not-yet-mentioned 60%, well done!  Keep it up.  If you are part of the way-too-high 40%, don't be discouraged.  Start today!  Remember the simple math I've shared with you before.

100% = what you earn
From that:
     live off 80% (max)
     give 10% (at least)
     SAVE 10% (at least)
