A Great Reminder

Matthew 24:35 (NIV)
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Merry Christmas!

Today as I enjoy time with my wife and three teenagers, I am so thankful for the gift of Jesus.  Without Jesus, the joy that I feel today would be fleeting.  Joy based on good food, once-anticipated and now-opened gifts, even time with family is fleeting for all those things last but for a while -- food for a few hours, gifts for longer, and, Lord-willing, time with family for a lifespan.  Yet even the latter will fade away.

In light of the temporary nature of most things, we do well to live for the lasting things.  We need to live for God as we love Him and others.

Because I know that Christ and His love are eternal, Christmas is so much more than an annual time to remember a birth.  Christmas is a great reminder of how much God loves us and what He did to reach out to us.

So, enjoy your food, open your gifts, and cherish the time with your family and as you do, remember the reason for the joy that lasts forever.
