Out of curiosity, I checked the archives of my blog posts and found that I posted my first entry back in December of 2015. Seven years and ten months of blogs. I thought I’d been writing these for about four years. Instead, I’ve done so for nearly double that time. In addition to these posts, I have written two books. And I have been writing sermons each week for over 25 years. My pencil has shaped millions of letters. According to Zippia.com, “there are over 29,944 pastors currently . . . in the United States.” Almost thirty thousand in the U.S.A. alone! By my estimated calculations, I have written, for purposes of sermons alone, over 2.6 million words. If those thirty thousand pastors have each written a similar number of words, then, together, we have written 78 billion words – all for the purpose of communicating the truth, power, sovereignty, grace, and love of God. And 78 billion is just a blip considering that it represents only the USA in the past three decades. I understand John’s statement near the end of his gospel account.
Jesus, as well as the Father and Spirit, cannot be contained in 78 billion words, or 400 billion, or 600 trillion, or any number of words. He cannot be contained at all! But He can be known.
Jesus – all-powerful, uncontainable Jesus – came into this world as flesh (fully man) and made Himself known to all who would receive Him. I will keep writing (and speaking) about Jesus for, Lord willing, many more years. I will do so for two main reasons:
