Experience A New Ordinary

As you read this, I am in Mexico serving on the student ministry trip as a team member chaperone.  It is a joy to be here with the teens (two of whom are my sons) and the other adults.  Much of our work is with the Mayan people.  They are a beautiful people full of generosity, with faces covered in smiles.

Whenever I serve on a mission team, I am reminded of my two favorite reasons for doing so.  First, I love spreading the love of Jesus through word and action - "they will know that you are My disciples by your love."  Second, I love exposure to other cultures.  On this I'll focus a bit now with you.  

It is wise to venture out of our Ordinary settings for times of seeing how others do life in their Ordinary Lives, for reasons such as:

1. We appreciate differences.
2. We realize that people are people no matter the place they call home.
3. We lose some pride as we see the value in others.
4. We get a "foretaste of glory" as we do a bit of life with those of different tribe and tongue with whom we will bow before the throne.
   

If it's been a while since you ventured out into others' Ordinary, make plans to do so.
