Christians around the globe are celebrating / observing Holy Week. The week that begins with Palm Sunday and concludes just before Easter, while not holier than any other week, provides meaningful opportunities for reflection and worship.

Palm Sunday – a day to reflect on the Messiah’s grand entry into Jerusalem. At times, His identity was intentionally hidden. Palm Sunday ended any concealment.

Matthew 21:8-9 (NIV)
A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

Maundy Thursday – I’ll let Paul describe the original Maundy (Mandate) Thursday.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 (NIV)
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Good Friday – a day dedicated to recalling, with respect and reverence, the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.
Isaiah 53:4-5 (NIV)
Surely he took up our pain
    and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
    stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

This year, Rabbit Creek Church and Christ Community Church are working together to celebrate these worship opportunities. If you live in Anchorage or nearby, come join us.
  • Maundy Thursday – 6:30 p.m. at Rabbit Creek Church
  • Good Friday – 6:30 p.m. at Christ Community Church
  • Easter – 11 a.m. at Goldenview Middle School

If you do not live nearby, locate a church that is offering such community worship experiences. Prepare your heart and mind for a great Resurrection Celebration on Easter by participating during Holy Week in the special opportunities.
