This is a helpful reminder to children (young and old) that Mother's Day is in five days. Remember to call, send a card, hug, and whatever else you know will express love and appreciation to the woman who birthed, adopted, or fostered you. None of those endeavors, we must honestly say, were easy to accomplish. While none are perfect, loving moms sacrifice much as they give birth, feed, care for, guide, discipline, support, advocate for, cheer for, listen to, and love their children. Thank you, moms! The first chapter of Scripture informs us that … Notice – God, who is Spirit (John 4:24), created both males and females in His image. Women, no less than men, bear the image of their Creator. One of the things that the Creator does is to bring and support life. Women who bring and support life are drawing from that image that they bear. (Note: that is true of all women, whether moms or not, as they serve their Creator.)
Mothers, keep in mind that while pain in childbirth is a result of sin, the raising of a child (which can be difficult) is not. You are entrusted with great responsibility. As a pastor of a church, I want to assure you that we recognize that and are here, as part of our purpose, to love and support you. We value you and we value your sons and daughters. (Dads, the same is true of you.) I am thankful for my mom for all she did, and is still doing, to help my sisters and me to live our everyday, ordinary lives in a healthy way. She and our dad value us and show it. I am thankful to my wife for her devotion to her role as mother to our three children (young adults, really). She is an awesome mom! You can ask Kate, Max, and Sam; they will back me up on that! Mom, thank you! Vonda Kay, thank you! All loving moms, thank you! Thank you for drawing from His image that is in you to parent in a way that our Creator designed. Thank you for valuing, supporting, and loving your children. #ordinarylives
