![]() The psalmist loved God with his heart, soul, mind, strength, AND mouth. He offered praise and sang truth as he reflected on the teachings and actions of God. He decided to give voice to the feelings in his heart. Notice the word "overflow" in verse 171. The same psalmist whose cup overflows (Psalm 23:5) now lifts praise because he is overflowing. His experiences of watching his cup overflow led to worship spilling out from him. Overflowing is the result of pouring more than planned. Perhaps he sat in the green valley and planned on singing quietly to the Lord, but then he couldn't contain his praise and increased his volume. Perhaps private devotion morphed into public worship. "What Mercy Did For Me" by People and Songs captures the psalmist's heart quite well.
Do you allow your praise to overflow? The God of the heavens and earth deserves more than a portion of our praise. Give Him more than enough.
