Summer is drawing to a close. Students are either looking forward eagerly or anticipating with dread the beginning of a new school year. Whether in regard to new school years, new jobs, new traffic patterns, new soda flavors, and the like - are you are one who is eager or dreading? When I think about that question, the words of God through the mouth (and pen) of Isaiah come to mind.
The ultimate fulfillment of those prophetic words took place over 700 years later in the person Jesus Christ. Jesus was the "new thing." When the New Thing arrived, some greeted Him with eager welcomes; others rejected Him and dreaded what He might change in their well-known and predictable world. When Jesus arrived, He changed many things. He still does! If you are a follower of Jesus, you know this to be true. Following Jesus requires a trust in the One who shakes things up. He loves you too much to leave well enough alone. He did a new thing in you as He saved you. He continues to work in you as you submit to the process of continual change (purification). When you read the Bible, hear it taught, pray, and participate in other Christian spiritual disciplines, you will receive guidance from God. You will, as part of that guidance, receive instruction as to changes that need to be made, such as . . . - habits to break - habits to start - sins to confess - forgiveness to give Knowing that will happen, what is your feeling? Do you look forward eagerly or anticipate with dread? Allow me to encourage you to do the former. King David, one who personally experienced much correction, taught his son the value of such experiences.
God continues doing new things. Do not despise what He is doing. Slowly but surely, He is making you more and more into the person He designed you to be.
