Tomorrow, I will sit down with a man and a woman who are preparing to speak vows of commitment to each other. They will be wed. While some people choose to remain single and others, for various other reasons, do not wed, millions of men and women choose marriage. Among those millions, we find couples who are married and couples who commit to marriage. Notice the difference. Some are married; others are committed to marriage. Men and women who pledge to live their Ordinary Lives for Christ and are married need to take their everyday, ordinary married life and place it before God as an offering. The words are heard often - "those who pray together stay together." Prayer is one of the aspects of marriage that helps strengthen the bond of a couple. What else helps?
God designed marriage. He is pleased when we treat the things He designed with care and respect. We treat His design of marriage well when we commit to each other. If you are preparing for marriage, go into it with commitment. If you are married, remember your vows and live by them. If you need a reminder, let me help. "Do you, _______, take _______ to be your lawfully wedded wife [husband] and do you promise before God and these witnesses to love her [him], to comfort her [him], honor and keep her [him] in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, keep thee only unto her [him] so long as you both shall live? Do you so promise?" Do you so promise?
