Today is a top knuckle day. That is to say if you use the age-old technique of knuckle counting to determine the number of days in each month, May landed on a peak, not a valley. While calendars tell us that Summer is not officially here until June 21st, at least for Alaskans, Summer is here indeed. Therefore, this 31st day of May is a good day to dedicate some time to thinking about and planning how you will spend your Summer. In the words of the Teacher, son of David . . .
You can scroll back to my May 3rd post to read ideas about how to stay connected to your faith during the Summer. Today's topic is family. Summer is the season of: 1. Weddings - As you attend weddings this summer, go understanding the significance of the occasion. Pray for the couple; that is a great gift you can give them (in addition to the cash or flatware). 2. Anniversaries - If you are married, make each wedding you attend a mini vow renewal time. Look into the eyes of your spouse and say, "I still do." 3. Family Time - Most students have a break from school in the Summer. As a family, be intentional with the extra together time. The weeks between semesters serve as a perfect time to connect with your kids, parents, grandparents, etc. Country singer Cody Johnson sings a song with a central theme of doing things in life "'til you can't." In part the lyrics say . . .
The Fall will be here before you know it. Enjoy Summer "'til you can't." 4. Fishing - To quote Johnson again . . .
Even if fishing is not your idea of time well spent, schedule time with the people who mean much to you. During the time of no homework, wet the line, shoot the target, toss the ball, take the hike, ride the bike. Enjoy the time "'til you can't."
The time is here. Make the best of it. #ordinarylives
