The Days Ahead

For my first blog post of 2022, I thought I would write about expectations. While we know that we cannot accurately predict the future and we should not worry about tomorrow, we can ponder the days ahead. What are some events you expect in 2022? Here are a few of those for me. I expect:

• to celebrate my 27th wedding anniversary.
• to enjoy a time of sabbatical after 14 years of service at Rabbit Creek Church.
• to celebrate the birthdays of those I love.
• to preach God's Word throughout the year.
• to lead Rabbit Creek Church through our focus on Matthew 10:39.
• to turn one year older.
• to take our oldest son off to college.
• to teach pastors in Kenya and Cambodia.

I expect those events and opportunities to occur. But I cannot know that they will. They are not guaranteed. Some things, however, are. I know:

• that God is in control.
• that God loves me.
• that God loves you.
• that Jesus is King of kings.
• that Jesus will reign as such forever.
• that all of God's plans will prevail.
• that by faith because of grace my future is secure.
• that yours can be, too.

As you think about your expectations for this year, devote time first to reflect on the things you know to be true. While I have not sung the song in many years, I recall the words of Ira Stanphill's assuring lyrics . . .
