Yesterday and Today

This week most students will engage in education through online means.  Some students look forward to returning to on-campus school for the fall semester.  With masks covering smiles of back-to-school delight or frowns of here-we-go-again dread, children and teenagers discover the new normal of learning.  They will be delighted to know that while much will be different, much will remain the same.  Two plus two continues to equal four.  With the exception of Urban Dictionary terms, the English language (and over 90 other languages spoken in Anchorage School District) goes by the same rules as before.  E = MC2 (whatever that means) continues.  The 100 yard dash hasn't grown in length.

While some say that familiarity breeds contempt, I say that familiarity produces comfort.  The author of Hebrews agrees.

Hebrews 13:8 (NIV)
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Those words breed assurance.  The Lord has not and will not go a changin' on us.  When He speaks, He is always consistent with what He said before.  I take comfort in that.

Perhaps the many changes that the first seven- and one-half months of 2020 have produced have been a bit much.  If that is true for you, return to the assurance of Hebrews 13:8.  Know that Jesus the Christ, the Alpha and Omega, will remain the same.  Even as the world changes, He will not.
